Joe Grieve

(b. 1997 UK) holds a First-Class Honours Degree from the City & Guilds Art School in London. Grieve currently lives and works in London.

Grieve’s practice is grounded in sustained engagement with the natural world, approached not as subject matter alone but as an active field of forces and relations. Grieve’s Work attends to systems that operate beyond immediate visibility- electromagnetic currents, mycelial networks, and quantum behaviours - considering how these invisible structures underpin lived experience.

Working across expressive landscape and abstraction, his works are informed by a post-impressionist lineage while remaining resolutely contemporary in their inquiry. Intuitive mark-making and layered surfaces register both the physical memory of place and the sensory and energetic conditions that define it.

Rather than representing nature, Grieve’s work proposes painting as a site of translation, where scientific speculation, embodied perception, and spiritual resonance converge. His practice invites reflection on the unseen architectures that shape our relationship to the world, and on painting’s capacity to make those forces felt.
